    Dr. Michael McKenna has 17 years in education and over a decade in leading high-achieving schools.  He joined the New Hope-Solebury School District in August 2015 as Principal of the Upper Elementary School.  Before joining the New Hope-Solebury School District, Dr. McKenna spent the previous 4 years as Principal of Ridge Park Elementary School in the Colonial School District, Plymouth Meeting, PA. While principal, Ridge Park Elementary was awarded a National Blue Ribbon Award in 2012 and also had the second highest PA School Performance Profile Score (99.2) for all elementary schools in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties. Since becoming principal at the Upper Elementary School, Dr. McKenna has helped lead numerous changes in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.  In addition, Dr. McKenna has focused efforts on fostering 21st Century Learning through newly-designed specials, the integration of technology and the Upper Elementary’ s “one-to-one initiative,” a Makerspace, and project-based learning.  


    Dr. McKenna is an adjunct professor at Gwynedd Mercy University as well as the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches in the masters and doctoral programs and also serves as a dissertation advisor.  He has been published in Pennsylvania Administrator magazine (Leadership Using Metaphors:  A Different Mindset & Supporting Secondary Virtual Learners) and presented at the 2018 Pennsylvania Principal’s Conference with a session on “Creating a Culture of Collaboration, Innovation, and Inspiration.”


    Dr. McKenna holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University.  He obtained his doctorate in Educational Administration from Temple University in 2011.
