Dr. Michael McKenna joined the New Hope-Solebury School District in August 2015 as Principal of the Upper Elementary School. Before joining the New Hope-Solebury School District, Dr. McKenna spent the previous 4 years as Principal of Ridge Park Elementary School in the Colonial School District, Plymouth Meeting, PA. While principal, Ridge Park Elementary was awarded a National Blue Ribbon Award in 2012 and also had the second highest PA School Performance Profile Score (99.2) for all elementary schools in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties. Prior to becoming a principal at Ridge Park Elementary, Dr. McKenna served as an elementary assistant principal, an elementary and secondary reading specialist, and as a 4th and 5th grade teacher.
Dr. McKenna is also an adjunct professor at Gwynedd Mercy University where he teaches in the masters and doctoral programs and also serves as a dissertation advisor. He was recently published in Pennsylvania Administrator magazine (Leadership Using Metaphors: A Different Mindset) and will be presenting at the 2016 Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (PASCD) conference on the topic of digital literacy and 21st Century Learning.
Dr. McKenna holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University. He obtained his doctorate in Educational Administration from Temple University in 2011.
