The Mobile Fab Lab (Fabrication Laboratory) powered by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) and sponsored by PECO visited the LES for a one-week residency. Launched to engage students in STEAM education opportunities, the "Lab" is a van that transports fabrication technology, including 3D printers, a laser engraver, CNC router, vinyl cutter, and a variety of robotics equipment. The LAB also has laptop computers with specialized software programs to control and interact with the equipment.
Students K-2 enjoyed hands-on lessons showcasing the lab technology. Given the timing of the visit, the theme was Holidays with the Fab Lab! Students explored various holidays and traditions celebrated around the world during social studies lessons. Then, in the Fab Lab, each grade was able to create something to reflect what they learned, ranging from Diwali lanterns to Kwanzaa kinaras. Next up, the students will display their creations in a "museum" so their classmates can share in their special projects! Special thanks to Dr. Lindsey Sides, BCIU Supervisor of STEAM Education, Ms. Adrienne Romano, Coordinator of the BCIU's Fab Lab program, and to our own Mrs. Jacqueline Miller for coordinating this experience for our #Littlest Lions.
