Middle School Art Exhibition

Our 7th and 8th Grade Studio Art students have been busy in the art room during the first marking period! They have been exploring contour lines, which are the lines that define the shape and edges of an object.

Our 7th grade Studio Art students created an abstract collaborative line piece by experimenting with a variety of lines using different art materials such as dot markers and tempera sticks. After completing their line studies, we cut the artwork into sections and repurposed them as vibrant backgrounds for a contour line still life drawn in Sharpie marker.

Meanwhile, our 8th grade Studio Art students created blind contour line portraits of one another. The challenge was to draw a classmate using a single continuous line—without lifting the pencil from the paper or looking down while drawing! This exercise encourages artists to focus closely on observation rather than perfection. Once their drawings were complete, students brought them to life with colored pencil.
