To conclude our unit on The Medieval World and Beyond, 7th-grade social studies students stepped into the shoes of master architects to explore the engineering marvels of Gothic cathedrals. For this culminating activity, students exercised creative choice to demonstrate their learning, producing everything from detailed artistic renderings and physical 3D models to immersive virtual builds within Minecraft. Regardless of the medium, every design required the structural integration of five key innovations: pointed arches, rib vaults, flying buttresses, soaring spires, and intricate stained-glass windows. We are incredibly proud of how our students combined historical accuracy with artistic expression to bring the Middle Ages to life!
