Several of our 7th and 8th grade students recently showcased their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while participating in the Fab Lab’s PA Keystone Challenge. This challenge encourages students to think innovatively by identifying one change—big or small—that could improve schools across Pennsylvania.
Rising to the challenge, our students worked in teams to develop thoughtful solutions rooted in real-world needs. Our 8th grade team focused on sustainability, designing an in-school paper recycling method aimed at reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility within school buildings.
Meanwhile, our 7th grade team tackled classroom communication. Their project centered on creating a chat device that would allow students to message teachers during class, supporting communication in a way that is efficient, discreet, and supportive of learning.
Through this experience, students applied design thinking, collaboration, and technical skills while gaining insight into how innovation can create meaningful change in schools and communities. We are proud of our students for their hard work, creativity, and willingness to think critically about how to make schools even better.
