New Hope-Solebury School District was proud to host a public policy hearing on civics education on September 8, sponsored by Representative Tim Brennan. The hearing brought together state leaders, educators, and community members to discuss the critical role civics education plays in preserving democracy and the importance of introducing students to the democratic process at an early age.

Prior to the hearing, students from New Hope-Solebury High School had the unique opportunity to engage directly with Rep. Brennan and the 44th Governor of Pennsylvania, Mark Schweiker, during a student question-and-answer session. This experience gave students valuable insight into civic leadership and the responsibilities of elected officials.

Adding to the day’s significance, members of the student newspaper, yearbook, and media center were invited to interview both Rep. Brennan and Governor Schweiker. These interviews not only enriched the students’ learning but also provided them with hands-on experience in journalism and media.

The event served as a meaningful opportunity for students and the local community to witness democracy in action and underscored New Hope-Solebury’s ongoing commitment to preparing students to be informed, engaged citizens.
