The New Hope-Solebury School District (NHSD) has issued an update regarding its ongoing consideration of implementing paid public parking on district property.
At the Board of School Directors meeting on May 22, 2025, Dr. Charles Lentz, Superintendent of NHSD, provided the following updates:
● The Board of School Directors has approved ParkMobile as the vendor, should the initiative move forward.
● The Borough Zoning Hearing Board has granted a variance permitting the use of the lots, and a memorandum of understanding has been issued with the New Hope Borough, allowing the borough police department to provide ticketing enforcement. Lots would include Lot A (District Office lot), Lot B (theater lot), and Lot D (Middle School lot).
● An ad hoc committee, comprised of various stakeholders, including booster club representatives and community members, met to discuss key considerations in developing a potential district policy.
Recommendations for policy and procedures include the following:
● Parking lots would be regulated during non-school hours and on weekends using the approved vendor, ParkMobile.
● Revenue generated through ParkMobile would benefit students of the District.
● Booster clubs would continue to raise funds through parking lot fundraising events. Additional revenue would be allocated to support student activities, angel funds, lot maintenance and upkeep, and special projects.
● Clear signage would be installed in accordance with Borough ordinances.
● In the event of a school district activity or need, such as a sporting event or performance, ParkMobile services would be temporarily deactivated.
● Local businesses and nonprofits would be permitted to obtain parking passes for their staff. Students’ passes must be displayed while parking during school and non-school hours. Students will not be required to pay the parking fee.
The next phase is to draft a formal policy for review by the Board’s Policy and Finance Committees. Following their input and recommendation, a finalized draft policy will be presented to the full Board for approval, tentatively scheduled for the June meeting.
The District remains committed to keeping the community informed as the process continues.
