Student 1:1 Devices

About our One-to-One Device Program

In New Hope-Solebury School District, we value technology as a teaching tool and technology proficiency as essential for the 21st century student. With access to personal technology, students can learn at their own pace, ability level, and take advantage of the limitless information available to them online. Our District will utilize technology to help transform traditional instructional practices to those where students are empowered to take control of their learning in a digital environment.

Our goals:

  • Connect students with the world's technological resources

  • Prepare students to effectively navigate emerging technologies

  • Integrate educational technologies to further personalize learning

  • Use technology to support innovation, critical thinking, and creativity

Frequently Asked Questions

Will students be able to take their devices home with them?

Yes, for students in grades K through 12. Because the laptops represent a deliberate effort to expand learning beyond the boundaries and schedule of school, it is vital that they be available at home.

What happens if my child forgets his or her device?

The device will play an integral role in classroom instruction, so it is extremely important that students bring their device fully charged to class every day. The device will become part of a student's necessary classroom supplies similar to a pencil book, and paper. Being prepared for class each day is an expectation for all students. If a student forgets his or her device, he or she should go to the library and sign out a loaner device for the day. At the end of the day, the loaner must be returned to the library. We highly recommend designating a location in your home for the device to charge at night and to easily be placed in the student's backpack in the morning. Establishing this routine from Day 1 is critical.

What happens if my child's device gets broken or lost?

If your child's device gets broken or lost, please have your child report it to the library immediately. NHSD will handle all repair/replacement issues. Please do not take your device to a third party vendor to have it repaired. Instead, please bring it to school where we will fix it for you.

Will students be able to charge their device at school?

Students should come to school prepared with their device fully charged. It is critical that students establish a nightly routine of charging their device. If for some reason your device is not charged, there will be one charging station in each classroom. In addition, you can check your device in at the library and pick up a fully charged loaner for the day. This should not be a common practice.

How will students get device training if needed?

Students will receive ongoing training as teachers implement new tools into the classroom.

Can students use their own laptops or tablets instead of the school issued 1:1 device?

Thanks to the 1:1 initiative all students will have equal access to technology. As a result, students should leave all personal devices at home. While in school, students should use the district provided device.

Can students use Google accounts they have already created? Can students personalize their device?

Students should complete all school work using their district issued Google Edu account. Students may customize their Chromebook settings, extensions, Add Ons, and apps.

How can teachers monitor students' online behavior and keep them on task?

While in class, students are expected to complete the classwork as defined by the teacher. By signing the Acceptable Use Policy, students are acknowledging the expectations that are acceptable and unacceptable. During the first weeks of school and throughout the school year, teachers will review their classroom expectations for on task behavior.

What if we do not have Internet access at home?

If you are interested in purchasing wireless access to the Internet, there are many options. If your children qualify for free and reduced-price school lunches, you may be eligible to receive Internet home service from Comcast Internet Essentials.
